I am passionate about fighting to improve the health of mothers and their infants. Every infant deserves the best nutrition possible, and educating parents is the best way to make that happen!
In 2005, I graduated from Colgate University with a bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology, intending to go to medical school to become an obstetrician. Seeking some “real world” experience before plunging into medical school, I took a job as a research technologist in a medical research lab at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. After two years there, I decided that a career in medical research provided a better opportunity for me to impact patient lives. For four years, I studied maternal and child nutrition at Cornell University, receiving my PhD in 2011. I have worked with pregnant and breastfeeding women for over seven years and am incredibly passionate about optimizing infant health during this critical window of development. Additionally, mothers’ health can be easily overlooked at this time of focus on the baby, and I focus on helping women regain their optimal health. Currently, I live in Denver, CO and conduct clinical research studying breast milk composition and infant growth patterns at the University of Colorado. (For a full-on nerdy description of my credentials and accomplishments, you are welcome to peruse my CV.)
Working for the last decade in academic research, I have always found it frustrating that advances in medical knowledge often remain locked away in those ivory towers and not translated for the public. Additionally, medical doctors (including pediatricians) receive little to no training in nutrition and often do not have the knowledge to answer parents’ questions about infant feeding. Because of this, so many new parents have little knowledge about their baby’s nutrition, and are left with more questions than answers. It is for all of these reasons that I have started this site as a resource for parents and healthcare providers alike. Every infant deserves the best nutrition possible! And every parent deserves to feel confident in the decisions they make regarding their infant’s diet. Please visit Baby Formula Expert.com where I translate all the most recent medical research advances on this topic into easily-understandable steps parents can implement with their own babies.
